Canyon Camping to Beachfront Boating
American Fork was founded in 1860, named by settlers after the gorgeous canyon and river namesake that flows into Utah Lake. Most residents were farmers or merchants at the time, though the town would later serve as a rail access point for canyon miners. During World War II, American Fork underwent an expansion that made the city known for its steel. Seventy-five years later, this city continues to honor that bold heritage through its annual Steel Days celebration.
A great place to call home, recreation abounds in this burgeoning city. A quick drive up American Fork Canyon provides opportunities for camping, fishing, climbing, or hiking to the famous Timpanogos Cave. However, if you’re looking for less turf and more surf, spend the day at the recently developed American Fork Beach. This picturesque beach features 800 tons of soft sand for shore recreation and sporting activities like beach volleyball, along with a boat harbor offering access to Utah Lake. Additionally, residents can enjoy Fox Hollow’s scenic 18-hole course, numerous public parks, a local amphitheater, and a fitness center offering aquatics, basketball, racquetball, and more.
